Earlier this month, Foursquare was informed that the original app will be updated in the coming vila mix weeks and will integrate only two functions: location discovery and local recommendations. The company has not eliminated the old check-in, but to take advantage of the historic features users need to install the new Swarm app, available for iOS and Android.
The design is clearly inspired by Swarm of bees, as you can see by the colors of the interface and the shape of the avatar. Like its predecessor, the app supports check-ins that show where they are friends, lists the latest check-in and allows you to leave a comment, but have been added to the original feature absent in the app. The first novelty is called vila mix Neighborhood Sharing and, when activated with a swipe header, passively shares the user's location. The friends who are nearby will know of his arrival, but may not know the precise geographic coordinates (unless it is made a check-in). A second swipe disables the feature.
To simplify the search of friends, when you start the app displays a heat map that divides them into six distances. In this way it is possible to locate the closest friends. To arrange a meeting simply tap their avatars and send a text message or a message.
Swarm allows you to create vila mix "plans," or the equivalent event in Facebook. In section Nearby plans you can issue a call that is received by all the friends nearby. This is basically a hub for messages that facilitates short conversations with an unlimited number of people.
In the new app are also the stickers that can be used to express their mood or to indicate a place, and you have entered the search by date of check-in. The concept of mayorship still exists, but Foursquare has implemented the Statutory Auditors 2.0. Instead of competing with all users, the app takes into account only friends. Points can then have more mayors, vila mix one for each circle of friends.
