After having laid dormant for seven years, the right to legal assistance for arrested persons was put in force on this date a few weeks after I abstained in a minor parliamentary vote on the 14th December 2009, and cited the lack of enforcement of this fundamental human right as one of the reasons for my protest.

At a reception this evening, held at Dar Il Mediterran and hosted by Claudio Grech , pride of place was taken by a large poster of – AUSTIN GATT- with a smallish Claudio Grech in the background. The place was littered with very recognizable Austin Gatt- henchmen even as Claudio Grech spoke about the new moviment (”bhal tal Labour”)of the PN that will be born next Sunday after Lawrence Gonzi and his new cabinet made of new faces is sworn in as the new government. By the way , Claudio Grech made a moving speech of how he was in politics out of duty to serve the country and not out to make money because (his own words) he is already wealthy enough with his own company that does not depend on government contracts anyway.
